Wow, I didn’t think that doughnuts were that hard to make! I am not a big fan of doughnuts and never have been that’s why I have never made them. My doughnuts were a total fail! They were not all uniform in size and they were not fluffy enough, my dough did not rise enough, in result it tasted more like bread. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind if you plan to make doughnuts at home.
1. Don’t try to cut out the butter like I did, if it calls for 3 tablespoons, put it. I only put about less than a tablespoon. Which is another reason it taste more like bread.
2.Make sure to give the dough a good 5-7 minutes of kneading.
3. Let it rest in a warm area for about 1-2 hours until it doubles in size. Once you have cut out the doughnut shapes let it rise for another 45 minutes.
4. You have to get a candy thermometer! This is extremely important, you must keep the oil at 375 degrees Celsius (190 Fahrenheit) make sure not too burn it, it should be light golden brown.
